Decolonising Coaching Project
Decolonising coaching for self, community and whole system change.
What is it?
A bold experiment to challenge who coaching is for and how it is delivered.Coaching spaces that centre equity, belonging and liberation for people who have less access to traditional leadership development.A circle of six - individually and collectively uncovering our system of oppression holding us back
Six change makers
Five one-to-one reflective sessions
Four key themes
Three levels of change
Two actions per session
One group wisdom session
What makes this important?
Colonisation creates injuries to identity, belonging, land, language, culture and spirituality. These sessions will bring this into our consciousness. Many coaching models focus primarily on the individual. Yet for many people from the Global Majority, people seeking sanctuary and those impacted by colonisation, challenges cannot be separated from histories of displacement, exclusion, racism and structural inequality.A coaching approach that supports personal growth whilst recognising the influence of power, history, culture and systems on our lives. This model of coaching looks at three levels - the self and our connection to the spirit, relationships with communities and the whole system.
Who's it for?
You may not see yourself as a leader or entrepreneur - we do!We want to bring humans from all sectors, who know they have more to give their communities and can't find the bandwidth during their 9-5s to explore deeper meaning. Is this you?Passionate about social change.
Strong values and purpose.
You carry ideas and vision. But sometimes you...Get lost in the noise.
Feel exhausted by the struggle.
Sometimes feel your anxieties and worries holding you back. You want to live life with more courage and clarity, not from frustration. You want to tap into the strength of your inner wisdom and ancestry to serve your community. We get it. We get you.If this resonates, this space is for you.
What do we mean by decolonial?
Traditional coaching often focuses on the individual: confidence, goals, mindset and performance.Whilst these matter, our lives are also shaped by culture, community, history and systems of power. Our decisions are influenced not only by our own experiences, but also by those who came before us and those who will come after us.Decolonising coaching does not mean rejecting all Western coaching approaches. It means widening the lens. Our approach moves beyond self-awareness towards social awareness and critical consciousness. We explore not only who we are, but how our relationships, communities and environments shape our opportunities, identities and leadership. If we were to draw a framework for this work, it might look something like the sketch below. And yes, drawing a circle neatly is harder than it looks. :)

Four conscious conversation areas
Breathe, reset and return to who you are. That is our goal.We will hold a one-to-one opening session to create a map without borders of your journeyWe're moving beyond the traditional coaching focusing on self-awareness towards social awareness and embodying Paulo Friere's through critical consciousness.Rather than just...
What beliefs are holding me back?
We move into also...
What is happening around me that shapes this experience?
And...
What needs to change beyond me changing?Four key aspects we know are powerful to explore are...1. Reframing your identity, drawing on your inner wisdom and ancestry.
2. Restoring life energy through the relationship with self, relationships with others and the environment.
3. Seeking ways your self creates flow that transform communities.
4. Groundedness. The ability to laugh, play, express our emotions (including our rage!) in awareness, as an expression of resilience.
What's the feel?
It's about creating environments for the healthy expression of emotional turmoil we face because of our hearts, thinking and environment carrying colonial trauma. This isn't about fixing you, it's about flowing with you to hold the trauma with your agency. Each session blends coaching, witnessing, holdng with playful movement, meditation, visualisation and ALWAYS some amazing music. We take a decolonial approach to learning, embedding Paulo Freire's approach to learning, reflection and action. Bring your full self.We cultivate LOVE. Yes love. How Rumi describes it, how the Persian language describes it.
What clients say
“Realising my story has changed how I walk in this world."“I carry deep gratitude for who I am."“My purpose is so much more clearer.”"I have not danced and laughed this much before whilst learning!"(Quotes drawn one-to-one and group sessions).
Energy exchange
Many leadership coaching programmes charge between £500 and £2,000 per session, placing them out of reach for many people who could benefit from them.We believe coaching should be accessible, particularly for people who have historically been excluded from leadership development opportunities. We recognise that access to coaching is shaped by income, opportunity and structural inequalities. Our pricing model is designed to widen access rather than maximise profit. Those seeking sanctuary

About Mo

Here's more about Mohammed."I am two generations of refugees and service is in my DNA. Decolonisation has been a violent part of my ancestry. My heritage is South Asian and Pacific, a mix that shapes how I see the world. I am also on the journey to decolonise my being and be of true service.I'm a single dad and proud of how I show up for my son, as I honour the descendants to come.I am a leadership space holder who blends courage, compassion, humanity, music and play.I'm blessed to have worked across 25+ countries over 20 years, from Fiji, South Sudan, Liberia, Somalia/Somaliland all the way to Sheffield. All of the work has centred how to create the conditions to get the best out of people serving others. At the same time, I spent most of my life not owning the power of my own name Mohammed Ali.I formally trained in many ways, but lived experience is what I centre in my service and also how I want others to show up too.I mainly support C-level leaders and teams to feel more connected, rooted and courageous, and hugely passionate about how to create communities that thrive regardless of the power dynamics. The more branded version of me is on LinkedIn. and full version of my true story here Who am I and what's my purpose?
